villagers

I remember going along to a gig in my first year at university to see Villagers as my friend wanted some company, but I had know clue who they were. I've loved them since.

They are a brilliant band, their new album, Awayland, is really creative and after their Mercury nomination, their popularity is growing. Their new single, Nothing Arrived, is a bit depressing lyrically, I'll admit, but still a fine a bit of music!

running songs

Most mornings, I try to go for a 4 mile run along the beach path near where I live when I'm at home from uni.

A couple of years ago, I remember one day working at the local pub, I was putting something on a high shelf and some boy said, 'Wow, check out your man calves'. Of course I laughed it off, ha ha ha, like it was a hilarious joke, ha ha ha, but I was 18, and mortified. I'd been doing a lot of running, and was even thinking of doing the marathon, but that comment knocked that one on the head. How ridiculous! I didn't run the marathon because someone made a silly comment.

But over the past few months, I've really got back into it and have embraced my solid calves. Anyhoots, thought I'd share a few random songs from my playlist which I listen whilst running. They're not your usual workout mix/fitness beats, as I find them distracting. Tell me what you think!

new band #2 - thumpers

Here's a duo from London, Marcus Pepperell and John Hamson Jr. Quite similar to Animal Collective and Arcade Fire.
You won't find them on Youtube just yet. You can check out their debut single, Dancing's Done, here on Soundcloud. Very singalongable.

Let it play in the background, you'll find yourself dancing along.

foals are back

If you haven't already heard it, you're in a for a bit of a surprise.

Inhaler sounds completely different from the Foals we all know and love, yet there is no denying it’s still them. After the unexpected funky opening it quickly moves onto something completely new in relation to what we've heard in either of their first 2 albums, Antidote and Total Life Forever. I can't tell whether I like it or not. Not the most helpful review, I know, but let me know what you think. Their upcoming album, Holy Fire, is out on February 11th, I've already pre-ordered it on iTunes.

If you're interested Foals are playing a one-off London date at Royal Albert Hall on March 28th. Support on the night comes from Efterklang and tickets are still available for the matinee here.

Also, check out the jackets in the video! I need to get myself one of them.

weekly favourites #2

All I Want - Kodaline : Definitely watch the video for this one, it manages to take this song to a whole new level. Slightly surreal but genius at the same time, with no obvious appearance from the stars of the band, it tells a tale of man’s best friend and how to find love when you work a 9 – 5 and happen to look like a vampire. Try not to cry.

You - The 1975 : Can't get enough of this song. A band to watch in 2013. Check out this interview with them here

No Angels Ft. Ella - Bastille : A great song, definitely give it a listen, if you like Lana Del Rey, you'll like this. Good-old mash up beautifully done by the London-based pop band: TLC "No Scrubs” mixed up with the XX’s “Angels”.

Sea - Roosevelt : The dog in this video is an excellent actor. Also, Roosevelt recently toured with Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs.

Forever - Haim : A sister act and deserving winners of the Sound of 2013 poll. They've been compared lots to Fleetwood Mac. It's truly a 80's charts singles sound.

Tell me what you think, and enjoy!
